Second Amendment at stake in Ohio - READ THIS
Dear Second Amendment Patriot,
Buckeye Firearms Association doesn't come to you every day asking for help. If you've been following us for a while, you know we don't cry wolf.
But I'm asking for your help today.
That's because this is an urgent matter that you probably won't hear about from any other source. And it involves the future of gun rights in Ohio.
So PLEASE ... give me just 5 minutes of your time and read this entire letter to the end.
If you live outside of Ohio, I urge you to read as well. Because gun laws in one state inevitably affect gun laws in other states.
It's about BFA-endorsed Sharon Kennedy and the race for Ohio Supreme Court Justice.
To put it bluntly, anti-gun activists are pouring money into this race to defeat Kennedy in her bid to win a seat on the Supreme Court. This is happening because there are several races where candidates are certain to win, so activists are diverting their money to THIS race.
If we don't come together and get behind Kennedy, her anti-gun opponent will outspend her by a huge margin, win the election, and put our rights in jeopardy.
What you have to understand is this: no matter what pro-gun laws we have, every one will be challenged in court. Open carry. Concealed carry. Castle doctrine. Stand your ground. State preemption. You name it, at some point they will all end up challenged in court cases that can work their way up to the Supreme Court of Ohio.
For some time now, we've seen things go our way. We've made dramatic and historic changes that have allowed our citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights and have inspired other states to follow suit.
But all it takes is ONE case. ONE bad ruling. And we can say "goodbye" to years of hard-fought progress here in the Buckeye state.
Here's the situation ...
Right now, Yvette McGee Brown holds the Associate Justice seat Kennedy is running for. Brown is a Democrat-appointee who filled the seat in 2011 when Justice Maureen O'Conner was elected Chief Justice. Now the seat is up for election. And the gun grabbers want to fill it with an anti-gun justice.
Brown's reputation is that of a well-liked person who has in many ways served the public well. And for that, we applaud her success and public service.
But ... when it comes to the Second Amendment and gun rights, her record is clear. Through word and deed, she has earned an "F" rating from Buckeye Firearms Association and the NRA.
Brown has proudly said she's never owned a gun. When former Gov. Strickland proclaimed his full support of the Second Amendment, she said she "doesn't agree" with him. She's frequently refused to answer direct questions about gun control to hide her true feelings.
However, her feelings were pretty plain when she was a featured speaker at Million Mom March anti-gun rally in Columbus. And she left little doubt about her stance on gun rights when she voted in the minority to allow Ohio cities to continue banning guns.
This is why it is vital that we get behind our endorsed, "A+" rated candidate Sharon Kennedy and help her win in this election.
Because of her modesty and because of strict judicial election rules, Sharon cannot not tell you how good she is on the issue of gun rights in Ohio. But WE can.
Sharon Kennedy is a true patriot. She enthusiastically believes in our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Kennedy is a former police officer, an experienced sport shooter, and an avid gun enthusiast. She not only believes in our right to self-defense, she exercises that right with an Ohio Concealed Handgun License and loves to spend time at the range with friends.
Like you, Sharon believes that nobody -- no government, no politician, no organization -- has the right to tell us when, where, how, or if we can defend our gift of life. She refutes the George Soros / Mayor Bloomberg school of thought that the elites should make decisions for the rest of us. We are Ohioans and Americans. And WE reserve ALL the rights enumerated in the Constitution for WE the people.
I'm not getting all this from a press release. Sharon and her campaign people did not write this letter. I know these things about Sharon because I know Sharon. I know her record. I know how she thinks. She's a friend. She's one of us.
Here's Sharon in her own words:
We live in the greatest country in the world.
As Americans we are free. Free to say, write, dream, achieve an do what we desire. Our freedom does not come from government. Our freedom comes from the Constitution.
With your support, as the next Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court I will honor the Constitution by upholding the law, not creating it or legislating it from the bench.
Passing good legislation is fruitless unless we have good justices like Sharon Kennedy to uphold our laws. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled on many gun-related cases in recent years and that trend will likely continue. Ohio Supreme Court Justices are elected for 6-year terms. So whoever wins this November will be making decisions about your gun rights for a long time.
So here's what we need to do ...
First, you need to get out and VOTE on Tuesday, November 6. Mark your calendar. Let nothing stop you. Remember that the Ohio Supreme Court race is pretty far down on the ballot sheet. You have to work your way through many other races to get to the part where you can VOTE for Sharon Kennedy.
Second, I'm asking you to DONATE RIGHT NOW. I know times are tough. I know you may be watching every dollar. But I want you to dig deep and give whatever you can today. Right now.
As you read this, the gun control groups are flooding their anti-gun candidate with donations. They're hoping to outspend Kennedy. They're hoping to keep an anti-gun voice in the Ohio Supreme Court. They're counting on you being too lazy or too uninformed to understand just how big of a deal this really is.
Let's give them a big surprise! We've done it before.
We surprised them when we won two U.S. Supreme Court Cases. We surprised them when we won concealed carry and castle doctrine in Ohio. We surprised them when we struck down every gun ban in Ohio. And now, with your help, we're going to surprise them when we elect a true blue Second Amendment advocate to the Ohio Supreme Court!
Because of strict election rules, Kennedy can't fight back the way she needs to. So it's up to us. It's up to you and me and our friends and families to DONATE NOW.
We are less than 80 days away from the election. In this short time, Sharon will be campaigning hard across our Buckeye State. She needs our help. If she loses this race, we ALL lose.
Go to Sharon's donation page now and give as generously as you can... $250 if you can afford it. Or $100. Or even $50 or $25. If we ALL give something, any amount, we can even the playing field. We can help Sharon Kennedy win a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court to represent our Second Amendment convictions.
Our laws are only as good as the judges who rule on them. Sharon Kennedy has your back. Can I count on you to have hers?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. And thank you in advance for being the staunch American patriot I know you are.
Jim Irvine, Chairman
Buckeye Firearms Association
P.S. After you make your donation, forward this page to at least 5 people. I mean it. Click the "email this page" link below. Tell your friends and family you donated and you want them to as well. We can win this if we all work together.
